Praise God brethren,, today I have decided to share about this sermon that has been preached by my pastor, pst Nancy. I know it will be of blessings to you as it has been of blessings to us as a church.
Scripture: Galatians 5:16-25
Galatians 5:16 What I say is this: let the Spirit direct your lives, and you will not satisfy the desires of the human nature. Galatians 5:17 For what our human nature wants is opposed to what the Spirit wants, and what the Spirit wants is opposed to what our human nature wants. These two are enemies, and this means that you cannot do what you want to do. Galatians 5:18 If the Spirit leads you, then you are not subject to the Law. Galatians 5:19 What human nature does is quite plain. It shows itself in immoral, filthy, and indecent actions; Galatians 5:20 in worship of idols and witchcraft. People become enemies and they fight; they become jealous, angry, and ambitious. They separate into parties and groups; Galatians 5:21 they are envious, get drunk, have orgies, and do other things like these. I warn you now as I have before: those who do these things will not possess the Kingdom of God. Galatians 5:22 But the Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, Galatians 5:23 humility, and self-control. There is no law against such things as these. Galatians 5:24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have put to death their human nature with all its passions and desires. Galatians 5:25 The Spirit has given us life; he must also control our lives. Galatians 5:26 We must not be proud or irritate one another or be jealous of one another.
We have to agree that the enemy that hinders us from worship God is flesh. Most Christians backslide because of following what the flesh desires and not the spirit. It’s clear from our today’s scripture that flesh is parallel with the spirit for what the spirit desires is opposite to that of the flesh. When you let flesh control you, then be assured that you will never stop sinning. This means you cannot please God if you leave by flesh.
With this, Paul is advising us to let our lives be guided by the Holy Spirit and you won’t be doing that which is sinful. Have desires to be led by the spirit and not flesh so that you can do things according to God’s will and one of the flesh.
The Bible is very clear to those who are controlled by flesh and follow the desires of the flesh that they will not see God’s kingdom. This desires of the flesh have been listed, and if you do any of it then you won’t inherit God’s kingdom.
- Sexual immorality
Once again we to agree that sexual immorality is eating up most of the believers. To carry God’s spirit we should be pure and you cannot be pure when you make sexual covenants. What most of as tend to forget is that ‘sex before marriage is a sin’ and our bodies are temples of God but we go ahead defileing them.
We should pray hard so that God can help us to be controlled by the spirit and be able to overcome the flesh which is all about worldly desires. Let walking and being controlled by the spirit be our prayer item in this week.
