Defending champions Bayern Munich will now have to wait a long time before being confirmed as the kings of the German Bundesliga for the ninth consecutive season after receiving a 2-1 defeat from Mainz on Saturday.
The Bundesliga leaders need to register a win only once from the remaining three matches to claim the Premier League title once again.
Three points against Mainz on Saturday could see them crowned champions.
But they found themselves back in the third minute after Jonathan Burkardt put Mainz in the lead due to a firewall he directed at goalkeeper Manuel Neuer from the 18th.
Robin Quaison scored Mainz’s header to make things 2-0 in the 37th minute before striker and captain of the Polish national team, Robert Lewandowski, wiped away his employers’ tears at the end of the second half.
